// open to junior roles: Linux / DevOps / operations

Hi, I am Ivan. I build Linux infrastructure and dig in when it breaks.

Engineering student with hands-on experience running Linux infrastructure. I built and maintain a home Debian server with a dozen services on it (media, cloud storage, messaging, my own API), including a reverse proxy, automatic SSL certificate issuance and full containerisation. Confident with Docker, currently learning Kubernetes and Ansible. I read technical documentation in English and work comfortably with English-speaking colleagues.

Technical skills

// core stack

Linux and system administration

Linux (Debian): installation and configuration, systemd, multi-service hosting, incident troubleshooting.

Docker and containers

Docker, Docker Compose (hands-on). Kubernetes / k3s (basic level, multi-node cluster).

Networking

PPPoE, NAT on nftables, DNS (Pi-hole), VPN and proxies (sing-box, VLESS), Tailscale, reverse proxy (Traefik), TCP/IP.

Ansible and automation

Ansible for deploying multi-component stacks. Bash scripts, systemd units and timers.

More skills: security, virtualisation, databases, monitoring, Git, languages

Information security

Firewalls (iptables / nftables / ufw), scanning (nmap), TLS and Let's Encrypt, some exposure to Kali Linux.

Virtualisation

VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, Proxmox for experimenting with operating systems and distributions.

Databases

PostgreSQL, MariaDB (backups, restores, access control). SQL at a basic level.

Monitoring

Netdata; general understanding of the Prometheus and Grafana stack.

Version control

Git: clone, commit, push, working with branches.

Programming

Python (reading and editing code), C++ (basic), Java (academic experience).

// soft skills

Self-teaching Learned the whole stack myself from documentation, mostly in English.
Working independently Built and maintain the infrastructure on my own: hardware, network and services.
Troubleshooting under load Worked through incidents on a live server using logs and metrics. Write-ups in the portfolio.

Hands-on experience

Self-hosted Debian server

home infrastructure · ongoing project

  • Deployed and maintain a multi-service infrastructure: Jellyfin, Nextcloud, Immich, Navidrome, Kiwix, Matrix/Synapse and others, 10+ services in total.
  • Set up fault-tolerant RAID 1 storage (mdadm, 2×1 TB) for media and user data.
  • Brought up a reverse proxy (Traefik) with automatic Let's Encrypt SSL certificate issuance for every subdomain.
  • Deployed Matrix/Synapse with OIDC authentication via Ansible, and diagnosed and resolved systemd and Docker network conflicts during the rollout myself.
  • Deployed a multi-node k3s cluster, then investigated and fixed an ImagePullBackOff incident after migrating a service.
  • Configured transparent VPN tunnelling at the network gateway level (sing-box, VLESS).
  • Wrote and deployed my own backend API (Node.js + MariaDB).
